Hi there,
The concept 'ancestor' in ediff info is undocumented. My suspicion is
that it might be an outdated concept and there is a modern replacement.
Failing to understand this concept has stopped me from understanding
some parts of ediff manual properly. I wonder if someone could shed some
light on this and help improve the documentation. Thank you.

AFAIK, it's not outdated. It's simply tied to the notion of 3-way diff,
which you apparently don't know about.

I admit my ignorance in this. However the documentation does not even
provide a reference to facilitate users' understanding on this
particular subject.
