I remember having once had this problem previously. If I remember correctly, the Compose key _did_ work, but only if the mouse pointer was within the main text window. If the mouse pointer was somewhere in the menu bar, or the scroll bars, or outside of the main window, even when the keyboard focus definitely still was with Emacs, the compose key stopped working. I reported this at the time, but no conclusion could be found (I believe RMS said that he could corroborate the problem, but not find the cause). IIRC, this version at the time was compiled with Motif, but I am not completely sure. Klaus, would the Compose key work if you moved the mouse pointer over the main window? -- David Kastrup, Kriemhildstr. 15, 44793 Bochum
