Yeah, this happens for me too when bootstrapping:

Loading /home/larsi/src/emacs/trunk/lisp/emacs-lisp/cl-generic.el (source)...
Eager macro-expansion failure: (error "Variable binding depth exceeds max-specpdl-size")

But nothing seems to actually, like, fail, so I wondered whether this
error message was just wrong, or whether the error was subsequently
fixed when Emacs got to a more properly byte-compiled state...  (Because
the stack is usually much deeper when we're running uncompiled.)
