Restarting emacs fixed it. :-| Not sure what happened.

Also there used to be warnings about some mail-mode variables. Those are
gone in this release.

I am closing this.

PS: When loading using use-package, ebdb is giving some warning. I'll
file a separate bug after checking my configuration thoroughly.
