Look at the following two strings. The first should appear as a
rainbow-striped flag and the second as Cuban flag. In Emacs built for
MacOS, they display as strings of blank space.

"🏳️‍🌈"
"🇨🇺"

In GNU Emacs 25.2.50.1 (x86_64-apple-darwin13.4.0, NS appkit-1265.21 Version 10.9.5 (Build 13F1911))
 of 2016-09-29 built on builder10-9.porkrind.org

Do you have fonts installed that support these codepoints?

The default fontset arranges for these characters to be displayed by
the Symbola font -- do you have that installed?

Yes. Yamamoto Mitsuharu's "emacs mac port" displays them properly on my machine.

I am AFK at the moment, but I think I do not have that font.
