Apparently, it is a consequence of this change (a good 16,5 years ago):
1991-04-10 Brian Preble (rassilon@gnu.ai.mit.edu)
* modula2.el, mouse.el, mpuz.el, nntp.el, options.el: Doc fix.
* oshell.el, page-ext.el, page.el, paragraphs.el, picture.el: Doc fix.
In the docstring, "sentence-end" and "sentence-beginning" are used to
mean "end of sentence" and "start of sentence", but seems like Brian
Preble mistook them for commands.
