Sorry, I was intending to include this but spaced it.

I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid using the 2.6.27-6 kernel, GNOME 2.24.0
with Compiz 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu13, and NVIDIA 177.76 drivers.

After much fiddling with -g, if I specify a y offset of less than 24
it stays on-screen.  Otherwise, same thing - the bottom few lines
flash briefly at the top of the screen then move right off.  The x
offset does work, whether it stays on-screen or only flashes.
