Upon starting Emacs, even with -Q, the window comes up off the top of
the screen. I am able to bring it back with Alt-[SPACE] M and pulling
it down with arrow keys or mouse.

Sorry, I was intending to include this but spaced it.

I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid using the 2.6.27-6 kernel, GNOME 2.24.0
with Compiz 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu13, and NVIDIA 177.76 drivers.

After much fiddling with -g, if I specify a y offset of less than 24
it stays on-screen. Otherwise, same thing - the bottom few lines
flash briefly at the top of the screen then move right off. The x
offset does work, whether it stays on-screen or only flashes.

Nathan

When did you first start seeing this problem? Did it only appear
recently?

I just started using "version 23" this week. It happens with both
emacs-snapshot (1:20081005-1 from ppa.launchpad.net) and the version I
pulled from CVS and built on 2008-10-08 at 10:17AM.

Aha! It's an interaction with Compiz' Place Windows. It only happens
with Placement Mode of Cascade or Smart.
