The variable `message-log-max' concerns the *Messages* buffer. It violates the namespace of the `message.el' package, which concerns mail and news and has the namespace `message-'. This goes against the "Emacs Lisp Coding Conventions" as they are defined in the "Emacs Lisp Reference Manual".
