Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I have the .emacs file listed below in my home (~) directory.  When I load emacs
(tcsh> \emacs).  My custom foreground and backgroud colors are not set, I get whi
te background with black foreground.  Actually it looks like it loads my colors f
or a split second, then it goes back to black on white.  If I load my .emacs file
 into a buffer, then in the "emacs-lisp" menu, I choose "evaluate buffer" then my
 colors are set properly.  Also, I've tried this with a fancier .emacs file, and
it loads all my colors (hightlight fonts) except for foreground and background fo
r the default font.

I am running kde-3.0.4-0.73.1 on Redhat 7.3 with 2.4.18-17.7 kernel.  If I run Gn
ome 1.4.? (I'm not used to Gnome, and thus don't know how to tell the exact versi
on) then everything works fine.

The .emacs file below was generated through the customize menus within emacs.  I
set the colors to how I wanted them.  I chose save for future sessions, and it wr
ote this .emacs file.  When I exitted and restarted emacs, the same problem above
 occured.  (Originally I tried it with my own more fancy .emacs.)

As far as I can tell, this is a bug.  I just installed Redhat 7.3 today, so all t
he setting are fresh.  Even if the problem is that I'm missing some simple config
uration setting, then it's still an issue that this didn't work out of the box.

I've included rpm_modules.txt (tcsh> rpm -qa | sort > rpm_modules.txt) so you can see what versions I'm running of everything.

Have you tried the advice in the etc/PROBLEMS file (view it from Emacs with
C-h P), specifically the section starting:

   * When running on KDE, colors or fonts are not as specified for Emacs,
   or messed up.
