I can't do anything until next week, but even then I'm not sure
how easy it will be. As I said, the way I provoke it is to hibernate
the PC with emacs running. When I restore from hibernation, emacs just
"disappears". There is no "crash" message.

It has been suggested and it sounds familiar from when this happened
before, it is to do with a link flag that tells Windows to load the
whole binary rather than relying on the original file when swapping.

I suspect if it is running inside s debugger, the debugger will be
handling the way the binary is swapped out.
