(set-window-margins nil 2 2) ==> get 2-character window margins
(set-window-buffer (selected-window) (current-buffer)) => no more
window margins
That seems to be a bug. Especially since the Info doc for
`fringes-outside-margins' says to use `set-window-buffer' to make it take
effect, and `fringes-outside-margins' makes no sense without non-zero
margins.
That is, this logical sequence doesn't work:
(set-window-margins nil 2 2)
(setq fringes-outside-margins t)
(set-window-buffer (selected-window) (current-buffer))
In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
of 2004-07-26 on BERATUNG4
configured using `configure --with-gcc
(3.3) --cflags -I../../jpeg-6b-1/include -I../../libpng-1.2.4-1/include -I..
/../tiff-3.5.7/include -I../../xpm-nox-4.2.0/include -I../../zlib-1.1.4-1/in
clude'

Apologies. I didn't read the Emacs 21 doc-string.
Thanks, Kim.
