This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

In GNU Emacs 21.3.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2003-03-24 on inchmurrin.esat.kuleuven.ac.be
configured using `configure --prefix=/freeware/emacs --exec-prefix=/freeware/emacs/linux-i386'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

When calling "call-process" on alpha, emacs hangs until C-g is pressed.

I started emacs with "-q --no-site-file",
M-: (call-process "ls") RET (or any other process)
emacs hangs until C-g is pressed.

Setting debug-on-quit to true does not give extra information.

This happens with all emacs-21 versions but only on alpha, not on GNU-linux,
IRIX, ULTRIX, HP or Solaris

Can you figure out why it is hanging?
Nobody can debug this without an Alpha.
