Subject: bug in completing_read or ffap?
Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 23:36:37 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <E18GoJp-0000OQ-00@mordor.private.org> (raw)
This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.
Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.
In GNU Emacs 21.2.1 (i386-debian-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
of 2002-03-22 on raven, modified by Debian
configured using `configure i386-debian-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --sharedstatedir=/var/lib --libexecdir=/usr/lib --localstatedir=/var/lib --infodir=/usr/share/info --mandir=/usr/share/man --with-pop=yes --with-x=yes --with-x-toolkit=athena --without-gif'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
- have ffap enabled
(require 'ffap)
(ffap-bindings)
- type C-x C-f and select a different directory with keys
- type TAB twice and in the occuring completions-buffer select a file
with the middle mouse button
- Emacs will open a >New File< because it "forgets" the directory
The problem seems to be that completing-read just returns the file
name without the path when called from
ffap-read-file-or-url. If the command starts in my home directory, and
I type "~/src", press TAB twice and select file ANNOUNCE,
completing-read just returns "ANNOUNCE" and ffap naturally tries to
open this file in my home directory.
This also happens in the self-compiled emacs in my company (both on GNU/Linux
and HP-sUX).
Thanks,
Ulf
