I'm not necessarily against it either. There may be a slight advantage = for some code that can make good use of the new format. However, we can = keep supporting existing code more or less indefinitely. It is also really not a good programming interface. I just fixed several = bit-rot bugs in tex-mode.el (none related to my changes) and it turns = out that the exact details of populating an occur-mode buffer are fiddly = and easy to get wrong.
