... where N=12 was a value that triggered the effect for me.  Also
note that the Emacs window was full-screen.

A sample text would be: type the alphabet about 2 and a half times,
space separated, and if it works the same way for you as it did for
me, reversal will start after the 3rd "h":

a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z a b c d e f g h i
j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z a b c d e f g h q p o n m l k j i

However, as a further update to what I wrote before, the exact point
where the reversal is triggered seems to depend on the size of the
window.  With the same setup as above, except, with a 50% smaller
window, I only had to type:
