I haven't seen this issue with any other software though. It is described in more detail here. http://emacs.stackexchange.com/questions/9942/visual-clutter-on-the-left-edge I also have the bug report typed out while there was clutter on the window on emacs -Q startup, however I don't think it will be very useful. I first thought it may have something to do with file size, but now it seems that that is not important. Many thanks, and keep up the good work! We don't want to depend on availability of other sites for bug descriptions. I see nothing Emacs-related in the snapshot you've shown. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with your system's setup. Two things I suggest to try is (a) disable ClearType if you enabled it, and (b) try switching your video driver to lower level of optimization. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 6+ messages in thread

This URL: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-font-smoothing-windows explains how to disable ClearType, if you have it enabled. > I couldn't figure out the way to decrease the optimization level on my video > driver either. In the Display Properties, select Settings, and click Advanced. You should be presented with the settings specific to your graphics driver. Usually somewhere on the Troubleshoot tab you should see a way to control the hardware acceleration level; try to lower it. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 6+ messages in thread

Closing it is a good solution for now. My final progress in it was recorded in the last message on 11 March 2015. Thanks for the help!
