Sorry.=C2=A0 It seems that things are slightly more com= plicated.=C2=A0 I get the same as you from emacs -Q.=C2=A0=C2=A0
To get what I saw, from emacs -Q, put=C2=A0

(require 'help-fns)=C2=A0 ; something=C2=A0I load, loads this.

(add-hook 'help-fns-describe-function-functions
=C2=A0 #'sh= ortdoc-help-fns-examples-function)

into *scratch* and= evaluate both forms.=C2=A0 Now doing "C-h append RET" causes:

help-fns--run-describe-functions: Symbol=E2=80=99s funct= ion definition is void: shortdoc-help-fns-examples-function

Thanks,

I started "emacs -Q", inserted

=C2=A0 =C2=A0 (add-hook 'help-fns-describe-function-functions
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 =C2=A0 #'shortdoc-help-fns-examples-function)

into *scratch*, evaluated it, then typed "C-h f string-replace RET&quo= t;
and got a *Help* buffer with an example of using string-replace.=C2=A0 So I'm not sure why you say we need autoload cookies, since the advice in<= br> NEWS seems to work OOTB.=C2=A0 What did I miss?

Thanks.
