FWIW, I can't reproduce the above crash on Debian GNU/Linux bookworm
with current master.
Geoff, could you show us the value of the variable
`emacs-repository-version'?
I'm also copying in Dima Kogan, the maintainer of the Debian packages on
secretsauce.net in case he has anything to add.
