Emacs 24.2 on the left (care of Vincent Goulet's package, but a local
compile gives the same results) and emacs-24 on the right. Clear on
left, fuzzy on right.

This is most likely because bug #11484
(http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=11484).
Supply screenshots for what you call fyzzy and unfyzzy so we can see it.  Fuzzy
is a fyzzy word :-)
