I upgraded to 24.4 to try to solve this problem but I've found recent nightly builds from http://emacsformacosx.com/, for example Emacs-2014-05-01_01-33-36-117037-universal-10.6.8.dmg, display the same memory leak behaviour (I'm on OS X 10.9.2). An older build of 24.4 from January (Emacs-2014-01-25_01-34-03-116153-universal-10.6.8.dmg) seems fine though.
