Why don't you guys gzip all that stuff in etc/ and elsewhere?
I.e. save disk space at the cost of some cpu cycles.
Like debian, all their /usr/share/doc/*/* are gzipped.
Yeah, some programs read files in etc/, like DOC, NEWS, but maybe they
already recognize .gz's.
