when i try to type:
$2^3$
in LaTex mode, the emacs23 crashes encountering the symbol `^'

what's more, i could not even open a latex file in latex mode containing

Please provide a precise step-by-step recipe for this bug, starting with
`emacs -Q'. I haven't been able to reproduce this:

1. emacs -Q foo.tex
2. $2^3$

No crash observed.
