Doc View says upon browsing a PDF:

    No PNG support available or some conversion utility for pdf files is
    missing.

Well it should say exactly what it tried.

P.S., Debian emacs-snapshot should "Suggests: ghostscript", so doc-view
will work.

P.S., upon
$ emacs a.pdf
there is a welcome to Doc View splash screen that the user only
sees for a second and then it is gone, unfindable.

I've now made the error message more informative in Emacs 27.
