At b7c22fab7d, subr-tests-bug22027 fails with a wrong-number-of-arguments
error. Reverting 29f7024b6c fixes it.

This is now fixed in Emacs 28.

Thanks, although I wonder why 29f7024b6c was needed for native
compilation, and how it could have worked.

Yes, that is pretty puzzling.  I assumed that there had been some
change in read-passwd, but I see now that there hasn't.
