In my ~/emacs I have: '(dict-server "localhost") as one of my custom set variables and: (dictionary) to run dictionary every time I start emacs. My computer has several dictionaries installed and runs dictd locally when it boots. Sometimes, I navigate to the dictionary buffer and put point over [search-definition] and press enter. I then enter my word in the mini buffer and one of 2 things happens: 1. it looks up the word normally and presents me with a definition. 2. it ramps my CPU up to 100% and totally locks up emacs. I cannot get out of this lockup and cannot save any other buffers so it quite damaging in its effect. I try killing the dictd daemon, that does nothing and as emacs is totally unresponsive, I cannot get to another buffer and kill anything. Now this is compounded by the fact of course that half the time it works normally, so it is difficult for me to pin down what causes it. So I would like some help on how to figure out what is going on. (I have tried using a list of words, thinking it was specific words but the actual words seem to have no bearing on whether it locks up or not) Also does emacs even use the systems dictionary tools or it brings it own? Debian GNU/Linux GNU Emacs 21.4.1 dict 1.9.15 dictd Version: 1.9.15-1 Can you please CC me as I am not subscribed to this list? -- -----Angelina Carlton----- orchid on irc.freenode.net brat@magma.ca web:bzgirl.bakadigital.com --------------------------
