In tramp.el, at line 3620, there's a line:

    :;; Utility functions:

It seems highly likely that the colon was meant to be a semicolon.

This does not seem to have any particularly deleterious effect.  In my
Emacs, at least, ': is boundp with the value ':, so it's useless but
harmless at the top level.  Nevertheless, it's against convention.
