BUT a simple backspace has removed everything, and it has shown just '/' . This looks OK to me. I'm using GNU Emacs 28.0.50 (build 32, x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.24.12, cairo version 1.16.0) of 2020-01-28 if this matters, but I don't believe this makes a difference.
