[49]+ Exit 70 emacs
I'm not sure how to interpret this.... An explanation of this error is
all I'm really looking for. A lot of the time it's when I press the
'g' button to get new news/mail and it everything has to block until
it gets the data. It will like sit for a minute, and then I come back
to the desktop hoping emacs is responsive (why can't it just use
another thread?) and it's not there or something like that.

This usually means that Emacs tried to draw something in an X window
that was deleted, or is otherwise non-existent.
The file etc/DEBUG in the Emacs distribution explains how to debug
such problems (search for "X protocol").
