Ah, thanks -- that was the missing clue -- with that, I'm able to
reproduce the bug here, too. Or to be precise, if somebody else wants
to poke at this before I get a chance:
emacs -Q
M-x eshell
export PAGER=cat
git log --color
--
(domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.)
