During build `make' may be available under an alternative name on
non-GNU systems. Try to use MAKE from environment like AC_PROG_MAKE_SET
before falling back to `make', ${MAKE} is already used for epaths.h.
At least, MAKE=gmake is used by FreeBSD/OpenBSD ports.
