I needed both highlight-parentheses and hl-sexp to reproduce the
problem. Either one of them alone didn't.

Revision 105567 was not relevant because it handled a problem specific
to the bidi display. By contrast, this problem happens even with
bidi-display-reordering turned off, and in fact is present in Emacs 23
as well.
