When I try this (with emacs -Q from the current trunk), it leaves point
after the "s" in "this", which I think makes sense...

I think Richard's master branch is very old (Dec 2015), and this bug
was fixed meanwhile.
FWIW, I cannot reproduce it, either, neither on master nor on the
release branch.
