Please post backtraces inline, it makes browsing them easier.

Anyway, if we have bogus markers pointing nowhere, the display engine
will certainly barf at some point.  Stefan, is it worth my while to
find a way to make redisplay resistant to this kind of problems?  It
will sweep such problems under the carpet.

Paul, could you please look at fixing this ASAP?  If a simple enough
fix is not in sight, maybe we should just revert the change which
triggered these problems.
