Subject: bug#5448: 23.1.91; Loading a file in a Windows root directory loads gazillion packages
Date: Fri, 22 Jan 2010 12:44:02 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <83fx5y772l.fsf@gnu.org> (raw)

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give
a recipe starting from `emacs -Q':

  emacs -Q
  M-: (setq force-load-messages t) RET
  M-x load-file RET C:/

and watch in disbelief how many packages are loaded by Tramp:

I can understand some of these, like components of Tramp itself and some
utilities, like comint (btw, why is it loaded twice?), shell,
auth-source, time-date, regexp-opt. But why does it load message, parts
of gnus, epa, advice, and the rest of this gang? All this just to load
a local file in a root directory???

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
d:/gnu/bzr/emacs/trunk/etc/DEBUG.
