So it could be something specific to NS.  Can someone with access to
NS port please try reproducing this?

This tells you that the binding to be looked for is in
compilation-button-map.

Yes, that's a feature that mouse-2 in the help-echo is replaced with
mouse-1.

Yes, and that's what I get on my system.
