It looks like there's some memory-related problem there, because
xbacktrace also fails due to inaccessible memory.  Likely
SPECPDL_INDEX bumps into the same problem.

Not sure how such a memory problem could be caused, though.  If this
is easily reproduced, perhaps bisecting will help?
