We should resolve the bug by adding the X resource derived reverseVideo argument to window-system-default-frame-alist instead of default-frame-alist. If you still insist on changing the age-old behavior, then at least provide a way for users who want that to have that behavior back (which might not be easy, since we are talking about something that happens at startup, but I think we load the user init file before calling the window-system initialization?).
