I have a Windows 2000 system connected directly through a serial-port cable
to my printer. All of my Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Notepad,
Wordpad, and Powerpoint), the MS Explorer, Adobe Acrobat, and Corel Photo
Editor print without any problem

I read and followed the information you provided under Andrew's note at
"http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/faq6.html" but I still cannot
reach my printer correctly.

When I select the "print buffer" option in Emacs, one of two outcomes will
happen: (1) If there is no assignment of a printer name in the "_emacs"
file, my system locks up and must be rebooted through the task manager, or
(2) If a printer name is assigned using the statement (setq printer-name
"MyPrinter"), the contents of the emacs buffer are copied to a file on the
c-drive with the same name as that assigned to the printer, eg
"c\:MyPrinter". If this file does not exist, it is created; if it does
exist, the contents of the buffer are appended following a page-advance
(^L).
This behavior is the same for both Emacs versions 19 and 21.

Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please read the section "MS-DOS Printing" in the Emacs manual (don't
be fooled by the name: it's not only about MS-DOS). It describes a
couple of ways to overcome these problems.
