I'm currently using remote-desktop from one PC to another PC, over
public broadband, where emacs is running on a Solaris box displaying on
the other PC under Exceed. As such, it's pretty obvious when there is a
lot of redrawing going on because it causes noticeable flickering.

I'm seeing a lot of frame redisplay happening with the pretest. I have
Emacs open with a separate minibuffer frame, several other frames open,
and when I do M-x I see all frames flickering (sometimes for ages)
including the minibuffer. At a minimum, typing M-x causes 3 or 4
redisplays of each frame before the "M-x" prompt appears in the
minibuffer.

Is there an easy/quick way for me to track down what is provoking this?
