This is a rather old version of Emacs.  I can't reproduce this with the
latest version, so maybe it's been fixed; please see if you experience
the same problem with the 23.1.97 pretest at

[Apologies for the duplicate mail: I forgot to do a reply-all the

I didn't get to 23.1.97, but I can confirm that 23.1.90.1 does
not exhibit the problem.
