Note that this particular bug has been filed against Emacs 24.4, and I
can't reproduce it on master.

Have you seen 14b95587520959c5b54356547a0a69932a9bb480?
AFAICT, open-paren-in-column-0-is-defun-start doesn't have much effect now.
