Yes. There was an @itemize @asis, which works in makeinfo, but needs to
be @itemize @w{} to work in texi2dvi.

I've committed the obvious fix. Sorry it took me such a long time, I
had problems (now fixed) with my Texinfo setup.
From the top level emacs directory, I can now successfully do make dvi.
So I'm closing this bug.
