Subject: emacs info mode

hi all...
i'm currently having problems with emacs's info mode on gentoo...
gentoo compresses the /usr/share/info/dir file to /usr/share/info/dir.gz
the info mode can only display info files, that are listed in the
uncompressed file, though ...
is this an emacs bug? (it should read the compressed file)
or a gentoo bug (gentoo shouldn't compress the file)
thanks in advance ... tim
