Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

This problem is applicable to the following operating systems: Gentoo
GNU/Linux, Debian GNU/Linux, and HPUX 11. It might be applicable to
other systems, however these are the only systems I've verified it on.

The bug is exercised when you run /bin/bash as the shell. To reproduce
the bug:

  M-x term RET /bin/bash RET

Then in the term buffer, type "ls". This should freeze the buffer.
