Subject: bug#10873: 24.0.93; `report-emacs-bug' obscures bug-reporting buffer (!)
Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2012 15:21:06 -0800 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <1716A09ADF16453DAA29A726CB402BA5@us.oracle.com> (raw)
emacs -Q
M-x customize-option RET abbrev-file-name RET
Put point after the c:/ in the default value c:/.abbrev_defs, and hit
C-k.
M-x widget-complete RET
(See bug #6830 - the completion candidates are the files in the current
dir, not the files in c:/.)
You now have two windows in the only frame: (1) Customize, (2)
*Completions*.
Still with point in the edit field of the Customize buffer:
M-x report-emacs-bug RET fffffffffff RET
In the only existing frame, you now have two windows: (1) *Bug Help*,
(2) *Completions*, with the first of these selected.
The only important buffer to show at this point is completely hidden:
*unsent mail to bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org*. No way for a user to report the
bug, unless s?he knows both (a) that there is a buffer somewhere,
waiting for user input to report the bug and (b) how to show that
buffer.
Not very user-friendly. This is a regression starting with Emacs 23.
(It worked OK in Emacs 22 and before, but you will need to tweak the
recipe - e.g. use `custom-file' and choose `File' from the Value menu.)
In GNU Emacs 24.0.93.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
of 2012-02-15 on MARVIN
Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 5.1.2600
Configured using:
`configure --with-gcc (4.6) --no-opt --enable-checking --cflags
