The cross reference _looks_ like this:
 
 whether they are made by auto fill mode (*note Auto Fill(emacs)
 .), by paragraph filling...

The newline followed by `.)' seems odd.  Is that the normal
formatting?

In GNU Emacs 23.0.94.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
 of 2009-05-24 on SOFT-MJASON
